obby vs. 15k armor
so I'm highly interested in a getting a set of obsidian armor for one of my chars. Problem is, I'm also liking some 15k armors for the character as well. I don't make a ton of money so it's not like I can just buy whatever whenever and never worry about my gold in my storage. I've casually saved up ectos (at 16 right now) and shards (3) and idk if I should keep saving up right now for obby armor or wait and buy the other 15k armors so I can get that craving out of the way and focus on obby only.
so, any suggestions here? |

When do you want your armor? I say this because, at the rate you're going, it might take you til GW2 to get your armor.
I personally don't like Obby. Would be kinda cool to see in on a Mes though, since I haven't in game. I like the 15k's too much. Plus it's easier for my HoM to get those. Pros and Cons all across the board, but mostly it's just what you can afford and what you like. Oh, and don't buy Obby for the prestige. The leet will always find some way to put you down, obby or no. Last edited by Kattar; Feb 19, 2008 at 02:39 PM // 14:39.. |

FoW armor is common enough that I don't think there's much prestige involved in it. Skills in farming are far more common than skills in fashion! Seriously, go with the armor and you think looks good, choose your colors carefully, and revel in the fact that you're dressed better than most of the game.

I would personally check out the screenshots forum here for the character classes that you are considering kitting out, there are some very nice combos there in 1k/15k that look considerably nicer than most obsidian armours.

Definetly go for the looks but some people might get the idea that you are too crap at the game and can't make money to buy dearer armour which might leave you unable to get into some PUGs.
I can't imagin who would think that though. |

Don't bother with the obby set.. there are many 15k sets out there that look better.

Depends what profession you are looking to get the armour for, if its warrior then i would avoid obsidian as its far too common. I allways like to see someone come up with thier own unique set, or a set of armour that is rarely seen

I used to hate Obsidian for my Warrior, but I eventually got it and now I change my mind about it. I would prefer to have gotten it for my Necro, but I play my warrior most. I have 2 15k sets for warrior, and to be honest I mix & match them when I feel like it, it's all about personal preference.

War FoW (male or female) is definitely the worst armor in the whole game. I pick collector's armor over that.
Also, what class and gender are you talking about? FoW looks good for some, but not all. There are a lot of good looking 15k sets they are the first thing I look at when I decide I need new duds. |

Look up the armors on Wiki. Decide what YOU like, then save/work for it.

There are sooo many websites that sell "FoW armour" do-it-youself kits, that anyone with a credit card can get one. I personally go for looks over "prestige" when it comes to armour, but i spoil myself in other ways instead .

Buy the 15K, by the time youve saved up enough ectos and shards for Obsidian you'll have made back all the money spent on the 15K easily.

Depends on your profession really. As people have mentioned, if you're thinking of getting it for a warrior for prestige then just get a 15k set. Sadly, almost every warrior I've played with in Obsidian Armour has been an embarrasment to the warrior profession.
When choosing pugs I'd always choose a warrior without obsidian armour over one with obsidian armour. |

To answer the OP, I personally saved up for fow and skipped the other armours. Sure walking around in 5k armour where most of the people around you are wearing more expensive stuff is no fun, but it really doesn't matter how much your stuff costs as long as you know what you're doing. So if theres an armour set you want now then get it, like one of the posts said you'll easily make it back saving up for fow. Though if theres no other armour set you want then keep saving. |

It's all a matter of personal preference. Like others have said, don't get armor for the prestige. Get it for your own sense of style, you're the one who looks at your characters all the time, not anyone else.
I've got 2 characters with "lowly" 1.5k armor because I like the way it looks better than the elite stuff. I've gotten a couple of comments about it, but I tell the knot-heads that I like it, and that's that. If you decide you want the FoW stuff, and are up to the challenge of raising the cash to get it, go for it! |

It really depends on profession. If you are paragon or necro, then FoW is good. Everything else, no.

Get Obsidian Armor. Everyone I play with sets you apart from other people because of it. It generally means that you are capable of getting a lot of gold. It also means that you know the game a little bit. Some will argue that you can buy your gold on ebay (they are angry because they don't have obi armor, ignore them, they flame... you'll see). However, not everyone buys their gold on ebay... there are a few honest people left.
Getting Obsidian Armor meant a lot to me, because I was grinding hard for it. I completed UW and FoW over and over again. I ran missions for people, power traded... and within a week I had my Obsidian Armor and other people became motivated to do the same. Don't just stop there though. Get your titles, etc... because people notice stuff like that and you learn a lot about the game that way. Getting into Pugs gets a bit easier, and along the way, you become good, if not great. Lastly, if FoW is too expensive for you, get three sets of 15k and fill your HoM. No matter what, do what sounds good. I typically like Obsidian armor. Call it vain, however, I like walking around with weapons and armor most people will never see in the game. |
